Abdominal Trauma and Splenectomy in Somajiguda
What to Expect During and After Abdominal Trauma and Splenectomy
The spleen is a blood-filled organ in the upper left part of the abdomen. It is beneath the ribs and behind the stomach.
It is a red blood cell storage organ and contains special white blood cells called macrophages (disease-fighting cells).
The spleen filters blood to remove unwanted bacteria, parasites, and other organisms that can cause infection. It removes old and damaged blood cells and also can produce red blood cells and certain types of white blood cells.
The spleen can affect the platelet count, the red blood cell count and even the white blood count. Removing your spleen is major surgery and you would lead a life with a compromised immune system. Hence it is only performed when truly necessary.
But the benefits of splenectomy are that it can resolve several health problems such as blood diseases, cancer, and infection that could not be treated with any other treatment or procedure.
The possible reasons to go for Laparoscopic Splenectomy (Surgical removal of the spleen)
